to the user that said “i just threw up in my mouth” regarding the designing sites in IE as a baseline. It’s very disturbing that your linking to a web design site and you are disgusted with this ideology. The author of this article is 100% correct! if your site doesn’t look perfect on IE then 80% + of your viewers wont stick around. The first thing that will turn off a viewer other then advertising is poor design.

I would add in a basic rule of mapping things out on paper prior to starting to code, this allows you to focus on what is needed, map out internal links, allow room for expansion etc…
Point 9 – SEO is paramount to have in from the start, have simple business rules which dictate must haves, always code against those and you won’t go far wrong.
At the end of the day most of it is common sense providing you understand the basics of adhering to standards etc…
